With nominations now open, we profile this year’s IMI Outstanding Achievers Awards.

The IMI has opened nominations for this year’s Outstanding Achievers Awards in the search for excellence within training and management throughout the retail automotive industry. Approved Centres throughout the UK are being invited to nominate candidates that have a track record of excellence in their performance, levels of enthusiasm and dedication. The IMI is also looking for nominations from Approved Centres and Specialist Approved Centres to find the very best in automotive training within the industry.
A New Venue
Outstanding Achievers Awards has grown successfully year on year and for 2014 the event will be moving to a new venue to accommodate the increased number of participants. The ceremony will take place at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, the home of the world’s largest collection of British cars, on 23rd October 2014. The awards will be presented by the patron of the IMI Group, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent.
New categories introduced for 2014
A number of new categories have been introduced to recognise excellence across all levels of professional accomplishment, including accredited individuals and higher level management.
The Outstanding Accredited Professional of the Year award recognises individuals in two categories: Technical and Customer Facing (Customer Service/Sales – non-management). These categories, for current holders of IMI Accreditation (ATA), are self-nominating and must include a reference from your employer. In the Outstanding Student Awards there are two new categories: Land-based and Bus & Coach. These new categories reflect the growing range of qualifications offered by the IMI Group and are now open for approved centres to nominate students. The Outstanding Management Award is open to those who work in management roles in the automotive industry. Candidates putting themselves forward for this role should have achieved management recognition in the last 12 months in one of the following areas: IMI Accreditation for Managers (AMA), are studying or have recently completed an IMI Awards automotive management qualification, or are an IMI member and have invested in their professional development through CPD. This award is self-nominating and includes a reference from your employer. Alan Mackrill, Executive Director Awarding of the IMI, said: “The Outstanding Achievers Awards has gone from strength to strength over the years. This year we have introduced new categories that recognise training and developing excellence from an even wider spectrum within the industry. Coupled with this, we have an exciting new venue for the awards ceremony at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, which should make this a highly successful and memorable event.”
“The Outstanding Achievers Awards showcases the talent, hard work and dedication that is taking place throughout the retail motor industry. They are an opportunity for the industry to recognise its own achievements, and also to show the public that the sector is vibrant and healthy, and offers rewarding career opportunities.
“Last year’s event saw an extremely high standard of entrants and it will be very encouraging to see this standing in evidence again this year. Winning an award, or being nominated for one, is a great boost to candidates’ confidence and is also helpful in their career development,” he concluded.

Last year’s event was held at IMI headquarters at Fanshaws in Hertfordshire and was attended by HRH Prince Michael of Kent. Nominees were put forward from 110,000 learners from within the IMI Awards network of more than 560 centres. Application forms with all the available categories in the Outstanding Achievers Awards 2014 can be found online here.

“We have sponsored this event in the past and we are delighted to get the opportunity to do so again. In terms of training, we believe that maximising an individual’s potential is one of the wisest investments a company can make. We see the passion, commitment and will to win shown by all the participants directly reflects the culture here at Euro Car Parts. It’s a real privilege to invest in the grass roots of our industry."&
