Dato' Sri Ben Yeoh Choon San, managing director of Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd, has been awarded 'Automotive Man of the Year 2013' at the Car of the Year Awards (COTY), for his outstanding work in renewing the Mazda brand in Malaysia.

The COTY 2013 Awards, held at Saujana Golf and Country Club, were launched in 2002 by Cars, Bikes & Trucks, showcasing the achievements within the ever expanding motor industry in Malaysia.

Dato' Sri Ben, who has recently been bestowed the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang (SSAP) award which carries the title "Dato' Sri" by the Tengku Mahkota Pahang, has been seen as the driving force in the automotive industry since the mid 1970's. He has worked with leading brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Daihatsu, and Hyundai.

Since Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd entered into a distribution agreement with Mazda Motor Corporation of Japan in 2008, the growth in the popularity of the Mazda brand in the region has been phenomenal. It is evident that Dato' Sri Ben truly believes in the Mazda brand.

"Mazda produces high quality cars which garner high acceptance from its customers," says Dato' Sri Ben. "The brand grew on the concept of excellent design, excellent build quality and advanced technology.

Dato' Sri Ben is also an advocate for raising the standards of training in Malaysia and, as a result, Bermaz Motor Sdn Bhd offer qualifications endorsed by IMI Awards, part of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

"The Mazda brand has a very bright future ahead in Malaysia due to their successful partnership with Bermaz motor Sdn Bhd," says Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI. "Having met Dato' Sri Ben during a visit in October 2013, it is clear to see that he is at the heart of Mazda's success in the region, thanks to his tireless work and business acumen."

The IMI has held a strong presence in Malaysia since 2005, with an expanding network of centres and a focus on supporting the training of electric and hybrid vehicle technicians.

"Dato' Sri Ben is an ambassador for change and quality training for technicians in the Malaysian motor industry," Steve goes on to say. "I am very pleased to see him recognised in winning this award."
