Team Leader/Supervisor (ST0384/AP02)

OVERVIEW

Written by employers, the Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard is suitable for someone looking to further their skills in managing teams or projects. Apprentices can gain experience in managing people and developing relationships as well as operational and project management.

This apprenticeship has been designed to provide access to development opportunities for as wide a range of individuals as possible. Including individuals who wish to take their first steps into professional management and those already in management roles, who may already have developed practical experience but who wish to develop their theoretical understanding of management skills.

ROLE

A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

DURATION

Typically it is expected that it will take between 12-18 months to complete the apprenticeship.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Employers will set the entry requirements for their apprentices but they may typically request that candidates have 5 GCSEs at Grade C or Grade 4 or higher.  In addition, it is desirable that the individual has an understanding of Information and Communication Technology. It is recommended during the selection process that the apprentice demonstrates the following qualities:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Advanced problem-solving and self-organisation skills
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivation

ADDITIONAL MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

English and maths at Level 2 (or equivalent) is required to be held by the apprentice prior to the EPA. For further detail regarding English and maths requirements, please refer to the Assessment Plan for the Standard.

ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

There are no requirements for on-programme formative assessment, however, it is strongly recommended by the employer group that on-programme assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviours takes place at regular intervals leading to the EPA. The IMI offer an eLogbook where apprentices can log and upload their progress throughout their on-programme learning.
