Functional Skills Workshops

Delivering Reformed Functional Skills English Workshops

To support the delivery of the Reformed Functional Skills qualifications in English at Levels 1 and 2, we are hosting a series of workshops to be held at the Skillsfirst office in Birmingham on the following dates:

Friday 17th January 2020 - 9.30 – 15.45
Tuesday 18th February 2020 - 9.30 – 15.45
Wednesday 18th March 2020 - 9.30 – 15.45
Thursday 16th April 2020 - 9.30 – 15.45

These workshops will be facilitated by subject specialist and Senior Examiner, Lorraine Wilson and will focus on the Functional English Subject Content at Levels 1 and 2, how to prepare learners effectively for assessment in Reading and Writing and how to carry out the Speaking, Listening and Communicating (SLC) assessments.

These workshops are suitable for

  • assessors / trainers / tutors who are responsible for the teaching, delivery and assessment of the new Reformed Functional Skills English
  • managers who are responsible for the development of staff who are delivering the new Reformed Functional Skills English

Workshop objectives and content

The workshops will:

  • provide an overview of the content of the DfE Subject Content for Functional Skills: English across Reading, Writing and SLC
  • help centres understand the key aspects of assessment methodology
  • give tips on teaching and developing Functional English skills in learners support centres
  • in managing and assessing the SLC assessment tasks
  • remind centres of Ofqual and Skillsfirst requirements for quality assurance of internal assessment (SLC)
  • offer an opportunity for practitioners and managers to share experiences and good practice in Functional English, including manageability issues and documentation
  • consider resources available to support delivery

The delegate fee is £160 + VAT per delegate

Tuesday 28th January 2020 - 9.30 – 15.00
Monday 17th February 2020 - 9.30 – 15.00
Thursday 19th March 2020 - 9.30 – 15.00
Thursday 30th April 2020 - 9.30 – 15.00

These workshops will be facilitated by subject specialist and Senior Examiner, Chrissy Thomas and will focus on the Functional Mathematics Subject Content at Levels 1 and 2, how to prepare learners effectively for assessments.

These workshops are suitable for

  • assessors / trainers / tutors who are responsible for the teaching, delivery and assessment of the new Reformed Functional Skills Mathematics
  • managers who are responsible for the development of staff who are delivering the new Reformed Functional Skills Mathematics
