The Department of Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) are seeking your views on the possible introduction of maintenance loans for higher-level learners in technical and professional education.
The main intention of introducing maintenance loans is to remove the key constraint of costs for individuals wishing to take up Technical and Professional Education. Removing the up-front cost for learners will allow them to have a choice, and flexibility, to attend new National Colleges or emerging Institute of Technology in regions outside of their local area.
Maintenance loans will be aimed at learners’ ages 19+ undertaking level 4 to 6 technical and professional learning (excluding apprenticeships) at specialist providers.
